In STEP 1, adults with overweight or obesity who received once-weekly semaglutide alongside lifestyle intervention experienced a mean change in body weight of roughly negative fifteen percent over sixty-eight weeks, compared with roughly negative two and a half percent on placebo (Wilding et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 2021). Those figures describe a trial population under trial conditions, not a promise about any individual.
Semaglutide has also been studied for cardiovascular outcomes in people with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity, where the SELECT trial reported a reduction in major adverse cardiovascular events relative to placebo (Lincoff et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 2023).
